Beginning of the Year Retreat (Saturday, September 8, 2018)
The beginning of the year choir retreat is a combination of music rehearsal, team-building activities, and preparation for a full year of excellent choral singing. All curricular choir students are required to attend. It is highly recommended that extra-curricular choir students attend as well. The retreat will be from 9am-3pm at Oxford High School. The cost is $20. This covers lunch, snacks, and an Oxford Choir T-shirt.

Oxford High School Fine Arts Night (Monday, September 10, 2018)
The Oxford High School Music Department will host a fine arts night giving information about the year to come. Families with students interested in joining the Oxford High School Music Program are strongly recommended to come. The event will be at 6:30pm in the high school in Cafe.

Oxford Faculty and Friends Scholarship Concert (Friday, October 19, 2018)
Oxford High School will host its semiannual faculty concert. All proceeds will go to the Oxford High School Music Department Scholarship Fund. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors of Oxford High School who plan to study a music related field in college.The concert starts at 7pm in the Oxford High School Auditorium. The suggested donation per person is $10.

CT-ACDA Honors Choir (Saturday, October 27, 2018)
At this intense and exciting one-day festival, students rehearse with a guest conductor and accompanist, enjoy a noon concert by featured headlining choirs, interact with their peers and choral students from all over the state, and present their hard work in a concert performance for friends, family, and conference attendees. Singers are accepted by teacher recommendation (no audition). Price $35 (includes lunch and music). Location: Guilford High School.

The Connecticut Music Education Association Honors Choirs are prestigious and competitive. Students who wish to audition must be registered in a curricular choir for the entirety of the 2018-2019 academic year; be in good academic standing; daily demonstrate excellent discipline, vocal technique, and music literacy; and pay the $20 audition fee before the registration closes. Guilford High School will host auditions. Students cannot drive themselves to CMEA events. For more information visit cmea.org.

The OHS Choral Program will present a second concert at Oxford UCC which will include selection not performed at the OHS Winter Concert. Please note this is a concert and performance not a worship service. Students uncomfortable with performing in this space may complete an alternative assignment chosen by the teacher. However, the alternative assignment is due the date of the concert. Therefore, it is recommended the student notify the teacher two weeks before the concert date to insure the student has enough time to complete the assignment.

Select students will be chosen to carol at the Oxford Baking Company. To be chosen for this sweet opportunity, students must be strong singers, responsible, and willing to dedicate the extra time. Practice materials will be posted to the Google Classroom. Auditions will be held in November.

The CMEA Regional Honors Choir Festival will be held at Platt High School in Meridan. The cost is $25 per student. Only students who passed the audition in November are eligible to participate.

UCONN Choral Festival (Friday, March 8, 2018 or Saturday, March 9, 2019)
It is with great pleasure that UCONN announces the first annual UConn High School and Middle School Choral Festivals. These festivals will be held next spring with the High School Festival on Saturday, March 9th and the Middle School Festival on Friday, April 5th, 2019 at the University of Connecticut in von der Mehden Recital Hall and in the Music Building. The festivals will feature hands-on clinics and written comments from UConn Choral faculty including Dr. Jamie Spillane, Director of Choral Studies, Dr. Cara Bernard, Assistant Clinical Professor of Music Education, & Dr. Mary Ellen Junda, Professor of Music.

The CMEA All-State Honors Choir Festival will will be held at CT Convention Center, 1000 Columbus Blvd Hartford, CT 06103. The cost is $300 per student. Only students who passed the audition in February are eligible to participate.

Boston Tour (April)
The Oxford High School Music program will be conducting a four-day performance tour to Boston, Massachusetts this spring. All students in good academic standing are strongly recommended to participate. The cost of the trip will be mitigated by consistent fundraising throughout the school year. Only students who participate in the fundraising activities will benefit from the raised resources. This will not only be an educational opportunity but the chance for students to create wonderful memories surrounded by music. Depending on the number of students who attend, the price of the trip may range from $600-$700 before fundraising. Families who are concerned about finances should speak with Mr. Sims privately.
